Identifying the Neural Signature of Exercise to Advance Treatment of PD Cognitive Declines

Twenty-five participants with PD utilizing the Medtronic Percept PC DBS system will be enrolled for this project and complete a single bout of both FE and VE. The 150-minute experimental session will be completed in the OFF antiparkinsonian and Off-DBS state.

Effects of Inspiratory Muscle Training in Patients With Parkinson's Disease

Parkinson's patients usually have a significant decrease in respiratory muscle strength and respiratory function, which may increase in proportion to the severity of the disease. In addition, peripheral muscles may become dysfunctional by the rigidity caused by the disease. This reduces exercise capacity and may lead to a decrease in …

Effect of Safinamide on Sleep Quality in Patients With Parkinson's Disease

Patients suffering of Parkinson's Disease will be treated with 50 mg/day of Safinamide per os for 2 weeks (escalation phase). Then, safinamide will be increased up to 100 mg/day and, if tolerated, the treatment will be taken for 10 more weeks (maintenance phase). Total treatment 12 weeks.

Cue X as a Treatment for People With Parkinson's Disease

Parkinson's disease is a progressive neurological condition which affects more than 145,000 people in the United Kingdom (UK) today. The main symptoms are tremor (uncontrolled shaking), slowness of movement and difficulty starting movements (termed 'freezing'). Daily exercise is recommended to help with these symptoms. Rehabilitation can help to maintain a …

Exploration of Differences in Metabolite Concentrations by 7Teslas NMR Spectroscopy in Striatum and Subthalamic Nuclei in de Novo Parkinsonian Patients and Control Subjects

Initially, the exploration of brain metabolism by Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy (MRS) of the high magnetic field proton (1H) (11.7T) applied to acute and chronic animal models of Parkinson's disease (PD) showed glutamatergic hyperactivity within the striatum, one of the components of the basal ganglia. Interestingly, acute administration of L-dopa …

Precise Transplantation of Human Amniotic Epithelial Stem Cells Into Lateral Ventricle for Parkinson's Disease

This is a single-center, single-arm, dose escalation study, to explore the safety, tolerability and efficacy of human amniotic epithelial stem cells (hAESCs) for idiopathic Parkinson's disease (PD).

Exercise & Brain Energetics in PD

There is increasing evidence that the usage and delivery of energy to the brain, known as brain energetics, is altered in people with Parkinson's disease (PD). This project will explore whether exercise has a positive impact on brain energetics using functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI) and Positron Emission Tomography (PET) …

Targeted Motor Learning to Improve Gait for Individuals With Parkinson Disease

The purpose of this research study is to determine how training to step with a metronome on both a treadmill, as well as overground, will influence the way that people with Parkinson disease walk. Using metronomes is commonly used in clinics, but the investigators will be using a combination of …
