Beyond TME Origins
All patients with recurrent colorectal cancer in the pelvis are eligible. The original primary tumour staging scans and resected surgical specimen needs to be available. Patients' recurrence will be staged using our proposed MRI classification. We will be assessing the original primary staging scans and histopathology to learn about risk …
iCycle II: Recovery of Function Through FES Cycling With VR Biofeedback in People With SCI.
The annual incidence of traumatic spinal cord injury (SCI) is estimated at 2,500 (35 per week) in the UK and, due to advances in research and clinical management, the majority now have incomplete injuries, with significant potential for neurological improvement. Discovering ways to provide intensive, but cost-effective SCI rehabilitation is …
Improving Radical Treatment Through MRI Evaluation of Pelvic Sigmoid Cancers
Patients with suspected or proven sigmoid colon adenocarcinoma, eligible for curative treatment whose MRI can be reviewed prior to surgery and has no decision regarding radical treatment are eligible. Patient are randomised to the control arm which the standard care of preoperative CT imaging and subsequent discussion by the Multidisciplinary …
Activity and Safety of Danvatirsen and Pembrolizumab in HNSCC
Open-label, Phase II, randomized, controlled study evaluating the efficacy and safety of danvatirsen in combination with pembrolizumab compared with pembrolizumab alone as first-line treatment of patients with recurrent/metastatic (R/M) HNSCC. Two-thirds of patients will be randomized to receive danvatirsen and pembrolizumab and one-third will be randomized to receive pembrolizumab alone.
Trans-coronary Cooling and Dilution for Cardioprotection During Revascularisation for ST-elevation Myocardial Infarction
A heart attack (myocardial infarction) occurs when an artery supplying blood to the heart is suddenly blocked resulting in damage to the heart muscle. Patients presenting to hospital with a heart attack undergo an immediate angiogram (x-ray of the arteries in the heart) and are usually treated immediately with a …
ARISTOCRAT: Blinded Trial of Temozolomide +/- Cannabinoids
ARISTOCRAT is a phase II, multi-centre, double-blind, placebo-controlled, randomised trial to compare the cannabinoid Nabiximols with placebo in patients with recurrent MGMT methylated glioblastoma (GBM) treated with temozolomide (TMZ).
Spirometry Interpretation Performance of Primary Care Clinicians With/Without AI Software
To evaluate whether an artificial intelligence decision support software (ArtiQ.Spiro) improves the diagnostic accuracy of spirometry interpreted by primary care clinicians, as measured by Clinician Diagnostic Accuracy (vs Reference Standard).
Role of Cytosorb in Left Ventricular Assist Device Implantation
Mechanical circulatory support, specifically implantable continuous flow left ventricular assist device (CF-LVAD) therapy has been established as a viable treatment for rapidly deteriorating patients suffering from end stage heart failure either as bridge or alternative to heart transplantation. However, a large proportion of these patients experience severe complications in the …
Pre-therapeutic MRI Assessment of Early-Stage Rectal Cancer and Significant Rectal Polyps to Avoid Major Resectional Surgery
When a patient is diagnosed with a rectal (bowel) polyp or cancer, radiology doctors read MRI scans to describe how deeply the cancer invades into the bowel wall (this is the 'stage' of the cancer). In this project, we will teach radiologists to find more early-stage rectal cancers. These are …
Assessment of a Robotic Exoskeleton for Upper Limb Rehabilitation
Rehabilitation robotics has the potential to facilitate rehabilitation at home and empower people with spinal injuries to self-manage increasing their independence and improving their quality of life. The objective of this study is to assess for the first time in the NHS the efficacy of a commercial robotic orthosis for …
