Gut Microbiota in Adults With Chronic Widespread Pain
We aim to identify the gut microbiome composition in adults with CWP. We will collect the stool sample of 120 healthy individuals and 120 Chronic Widespread Pain patients. We hypothesize that the intestinal microbiota is altered in CWP compared to healthy subjects without CWP.
Risk Stratifying COPD Exacerbations
To identify clinical characteristics on presentation which predict differential outcomes in patients with exacerbation of COPD.
Transcriptome Profiling and Endometrial Receptivity
The aim of this study is to correlate and identify the biochemical markers which may reflect WOI. Blood samples will be collected and endometrial biopsy will be performed at particular time points.
Prodromal Markers in Recurrent Dream Enactment Behaviors Without REM Sleep Without Atonia
REM sleep behavior disorder is a novel and distinct parasomnia characterized by recurrent dream enactment behaviors (DEBs) and REM sleep without atonia (RSWA) during polysomnographic assessment, with a male predominance and typical onset age at early 60's. The majority of patients with idiopathic RBD (iRBD) will eventually develop α-synucleinopathy, for …
Sleep Apnea, Neurocognitive Decline and Brain Imaging in Patients With Subjective or Mild Cognitive Impairment
Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is recurrent episodes of partial or complete obstruction of the upper airway during sleep that causes intermittent hypoxia and sleep fragmentation and potentially lead to cardiometabolic and neurocognitive sequelae. Chronic intermittent hypoxia, sleep fragmentation of OSA, and insufficient sleep have been significantly associated with higher risks …
Metagenomic Study in Parapneumonic Effusion
Objective: To identify known and unknown bacterial pathogens in patients with pleural infections using a combination of conventional culture and next-generation sequencing approaches. Hypothesis to be tested: The investigators hypothesize that next-generation sequencing will serve as a comprehensive approach to identify culturable and unculturable bacterial pathogens in patients with pleural …
BioFreedom Ultra Registry
Over the past three decades, coronary stent struts have been made progressively thinner. Thin strut drug-eluting stents (DES) performed better than their thicker counterparts in a recent study. Thinner struts discourage abnormal coronary flow after implantation and associated with greater flexibility, deliverability and better clinical outcomes. Lower strut thickness may …
PRecision Oncology CUhk pRogrammE (PRO-CURE)
The main aim of this project is to establish an innovative model of a comprehensive precision oncology platform to help individualizing drug therapy for patients with advanced cancers at The Chinese University of Hong Kong. The other objectives include to optimize the genomic matching and access of patients with unique …
The Impact of Excessive Dietary Sodium on Brain Health
Sporadic cerebral small vessel disease (CSVD) is not only the most common subtype of vascular dementia, in recent multi-center study showed that sporadic CSVD harbors in a third of Alzheimer's disease (AD) patients in 9 Asian regions. The CSVD increases the severity of cognitive impairment in these patients and has …
An 18-year Follow-up Study on OSA in a Population-based Cohort
Our research team has established a polysomnography (PSG) quantified population-based paediatric sleep cohort in 2003 for a childhood OSA prevalence study. Subjects were recruited from 13 randomly selected primary schools. All subjects from this original cohort will be invited to join this 18-year follow-up study to repeat the following data …
