Lymphedema, Low-grade Inflammation and the Vasculature in Turner Syndrome
100 women with karyotype verified TS, previously examined at 4 study visits during a 19-year period will be asked to participate in a 5th study visit. Healthy age-matched females will be included as controls in a ratio 2:1. The aim is to examine and quantify the cardiovascular and lymphatic system …
Pregnancy in Women With Rare Multisystemic Vascular Diseases: COGRare5 Study
There are no prospective studies of pregnancies for the diseases studied here in (Heredity Hemorrhagic Telangiectasia, Marfan syndrome or related, primary lower limb lymphedema, superficial arteriovenous malformations, and cerebro-spinal arteriovenous malformations) although complications of these can present life-threatening health problems for the mother and her baby. The purpose of this …
Lymphedema Evaluation After Adjuvant Hypofractionated Radiotherapy for 1-2 Macrometastatic Sentinel Lymph Nodes
In this observational prospective studi patients with invasive breast cancer no more than 5 cm and clinically node negative, scheduled for conservative surgery and Sentinel Node Biopsy (SNB), are enrolled in the protocol if they have 1-2 sentinel lymphnodes (SLNs) with macrometastases. SLN status will be checked on definitive sections.
Development of a Clinical Screening, Diagnostic and Evaluation Tool for Patients With Lower Limb Lymphedema: Aim 2
Lymphedema is a chronic, debilitating disorder characterized by abnormal tissue swelling, adipose deposition and tissue fibrosis, resulting from disruption, blockage, or genetic abnormalities of the lymphatic system. Secondary lymphedema is an acquired lymphedema due to trauma, surgery, radiotherapy or infection among others resulting in a decreased transport capacity of the …
Development of a Clinical Screening, Diagnostic and Evaluation Tool for Patients With Lower Limb Lymphedema: Aim 1
Of all of the different measurement methods that are currently available for use in clinical practice for assessing the same lymphedema characteristic (for example water displacement versus perimetry, both assessing swelling) or different lymphedema characteristics (for example water content in the skin versus hardness of the skin versus thickness of …
Development of a Clinical Screening, Diagnostic and Evaluation Tool for Patients With Lower Limb Lymphedema: Aim 3
The current best practice is a three-stage classification consensus guideline as published by the International Society of Lymphology (ISL). Severity of lymphedema is however not only determined by presence of pitting (which is the phenomenon when the swollen area has a dimple (or pit) after you press it for 5 …
Development of a Clinical Screening, Diagnostic and Evaluation Tool for Patients With Lower Limb Lymphedema: Aim 4
Research investigating measurement properties for evaluating the decongestive treatment effect on different edema characteristics (e.g. water volume, hardness of the skin, water content,..) at the level of the lower limbs is missing. Information about the clinical relevant change criteria after treatment for nearly all these edema characteristics, is not present …
Digital Supported Compression Bandaging in Patients with Chronic Edema in the Lower Limbs
Patients with chronic edema of the lower limb referred to compression bandaging in a hospital setting will be invited to participate in the validation study of a novel sensor (CIMON), which have been developed for assessing the effect of compression bandaging. Participants will have the sensor applied to the lower …
Vascular Lab Resource (VLR) Biorepository
This is a study of biomarkers obtained from prospectively collected subject samples and their correlation with cardiovascular and metabolic diseases. The purpose of this initiative is to develop an enduring tool to allow for collaborative research between clinicians at Cleveland Clinic Main Campus and basic scientists at the Lerner Research …
